Cyprus West University Attended the “World One Health Symposium” Held at OMÜ
The “World One Health Symposium,” organized by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ), aimed to raise awareness about current health threats within the context of human, animal, and environmental health. The event took place at the OMÜ Atatürk Congress and Culture Center, and Cyprus West University Rector Prof. Dr. Canan Hecer participated in the symposium.
In her speech, Prof. Dr. Hecer emphasized the growing global importance of the “One Health” approach and stated:
“A significant portion of diseases are zoonotic in nature. Therefore, strong scientific collaboration between veterinary medicine, human health, and environmental health is essential. Global pandemics have shown us that interdisciplinary cooperation is now indispensable. As Cyprus West University, we attach great importance to academic and scientific collaborations in this field.”
During the symposium, important topics such as food safety, the prevention of zoonotic diseases, laboratory practices, tropical diseases, environmental health, and antimicrobial resistance were discussed.
Following the event, Prof. Dr. Canan Hecer held a meeting with OMÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın to evaluate potential cooperation areas. Prof. Hecer emphasized that both universities will continue their efforts to strengthen collaboration in education, research, and joint scientific projects.
