Purpose of the Summer School:

The Summer School aims to provide students the opportunity to retake courses they were unsuccessful in during the regular semesters or wish to repeat to improve their cumulative grade point average (CGPA), as well as to take courses they did not enroll in during the regular semesters, if offered in the summer. This initiative also helps alleviate student congestion in departments, thereby enhancing the quality of education.

Additionally, it allows students from other higher education institutions to benefit from our university’s educational opportunities under special student status.

Duration of the Summer School:

The Summer School is conducted during the period between the Spring and Fall semesters. Each course offered in the Summer School has the same number of class hours as in the regular semester. The start and end dates of the Summer School are specified in the academic calendar.

Course Selection, Application, and Registration:

Summer School courses do not replace those of the Fall and Spring semesters. All required and elective courses within the undergraduate programs are offered in their designated semesters and are not postponed to the Summer School.

The necessary minimum number of students and the number of groups for the courses to be offered in the Summer School are determined by the University Management Board.

The courses anticipated to be offered in the Summer School, along with the responsible faculty members, are determined with the approval of the relevant departments and unit boards. The confirmed courses are finalized after Senate approval and announced by the relevant units.

Students wishing to take courses in the Summer School must complete preliminary and final registration within the dates specified in the academic calendar.

Students wishing to benefit from the Summer School must primarily register for courses in which they received “D,” “F,” “W,” or “U” grades.

Attendance Requirement:

Attendance during the summer term is mandatory. The absenteeism limit is applied as specified in the Cyprus West University Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education, Examination, and Assessment Regulations.

CWU Summer School Fees:

The Summer School is subject to a separate fee. Scholarships for students do not apply during the Summer School.

Examinations and Success Assessment:

In courses offered during the summer term, a maximum of two midterm exams and one final exam will be conducted. The evaluation of success and grading procedures are carried out according to the relevant provisions of the Cyprus West University Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education, Examination, and Assessment Regulations.

Each summer term is considered equivalent to a semester, and the grades students receive during each summer term will be displayed in a separate section under the “Summer Term” heading on their transcripts.
